Choose the effect that fits your design

Raised metallic foil gives you an actual reflective foil finish. It is different from printing a gold colour in CMYK and covering it with clear UV.

Raised Spot UV adds a clear, raised gloss over printed artwork. It can be a practical alternative when tactile contrast matters more than a metallic surface. Traditional embossing and letterpress shape the paper itself. Raised metallic foil sits above the card and does not create the same paper relief or recessed impression. If that impression is essential to your design, explore our Letterpress Studio and ask us to compare the options.

Artwork that gives the foil room to shine

• Supply a print-ready CMYK PDF and a separate vector PDF showing the foil areas in 100% black.
• Keep foil at least 5 mm inside the trimmed edge.
• Use comfortably sized lettering. Sans-serif type larger than 8pt is a useful starting point, subject to artwork review.
• Leave generous space between details. Very small gaps, fine reversed lettering and narrow lines may fill or lose definition.
• Avoid designs that rely on perfect alignment between very fine printed and foil elements. We will review any closely aligned details before production.

We confirm the setup template with your final specification. A screen proof shows layout and foil placement, but cannot reproduce the metallic reflection or raised feel.
