01 / PAPER SELECTION

Choose the paper.

Start with the surface you want to hold. A laminate controls reflection and protects the print; uncoated papers keep the sheet’s texture visible.

Stacks of teal and white silk-laminated business cards showing the printed face and layered edges.

SMOOTH / LAMINATED

Silk Business Cards

A smooth, low-glare laminate keeps colour and fine type clearly defined. Choose it when the card combines typography, solid colour and photographic detail.

ULTRA-MATTE / LAMINATED

Soft Touch Business Cards

An ultra-matte laminate with a soft, velvety feel. It reduces surface glare and gives dark colours a more subdued appearance; handling marks can be more visible on large dark areas.

02 / STOCK REFERENCE

Compare the constructions.

Read across each paper to compare its surface, available thicknesses and print character. Choose the construction alongside the design, rather than by weight alone.

Thicknesses are listed in points (pt). Paper tone, texture and laminate feel should be assessed from a physical sample when these details are critical to the design.

03 / SPECIALTY FINISHING

Specify the finish.

Apply gloss to selected artwork, or colour to the exposed edge. Each finish is specified separately from the printed design and adds a production step.

SELECTIVE GLOSS / RAISED DETAIL

Black business cards with a raised clear gloss pattern, showing the transition between reflected light and matte areas.

Raised Spot UV Business Cards

A clear, raised gloss is applied to selected areas of the printed card. It adds a reflective, tactile layer to logos, lettering or patterns while the artwork remains visible underneath.

Production: Additional finishing time follows artwork and UV-file approval.

Review fine lines, narrow gaps and elements close to the trim before preparing the UV separation.

04 / FILE & PRODUCTION NOTES

Before we print.

Prepare the artwork for the chosen paper and finishing process. Production is based on supplied, print-ready files.

Print files & trim

Supply a press-ready PDF in CMYK at final trim size, with 1/8-inch bleed on all sides and crop marks. Embed or outline fonts and keep important type and graphics inside a safe margin.

Allow for normal print and trimming tolerances when using fine borders, small reversed type or elements close to the edge.

UV artwork & edge colour

For Raised Spot UV, supply a separate vector PDF showing only the elements that receive the clear coating. Keep the printed artwork and finishing mask clearly identified.

For edge painting, specify the stock and edge colour separately. The available construction and finish combinations are listed on the product page.

Proofs & production

A PDF proof checks content, positioning and separations. It does not reproduce paper tone, laminate feel, raised gloss or the physical appearance of a painted edge.

Standard paper products list their current production timing on the product page. Finishing and approval requirements can add time; confirm the schedule for projects with a fixed deadline.
