Letterpress vs Digital Printing: Which is Right for Your Business Cards?
When it comes to business cards, the printing method you choose says as much about your brand as the design itself. At Blitz Print House in Toronto, we offer both traditional letterpress and modern digital printing — and the difference is something you can see and feel.
What is Letterpress Printing?
Letterpress is a centuries-old technique where inked type or plates are pressed into thick cotton or soft paper, creating a deep, tactile impression called a deboss. The result is a card with a distinct three-dimensional feel that simply cannot be replicated by any other method.
At our Scarborough studio, we use a vintage Heidelberg Windmill press and print on Crane's Lettra 600gsm cotton paper — the same stock used for fine art prints and high-end wedding invitations. When someone receives one of our letterpress cards, they notice it immediately.
Best for: Creative professionals, photographers, architects, lawyers, doctors, and anyone who wants their first impression to be unforgettable.
What is Digital Printing?
Digital printing uses high-resolution inkjet or laser technology to transfer ink directly onto card stock. Modern digital presses deliver exceptional colour accuracy and can reproduce photographs, gradients, and complex artwork with perfect fidelity.
Our coated and uncoated digital business cards are printed on premium 16pt and 19pt silk-laminated stock, with options including gloss, soft-touch matte, and raised spot UV finishing.
Best for: Businesses that need full-colour designs, logos with gradients, or product photography on their cards.
How to Choose
If your brand values craftsmanship, heritage, and tactile quality, letterpress is the answer. If you need vibrant full-colour reproduction and a faster turnaround, digital is the smarter choice.
